"Texture the Frame" at the Rogue Space (New York, NY) 526 West 26th Street (between 10th and 11th) 9E-9F
New York, New York,
November 10th - November 16th
Please join me for the opening of "Texture The Frame" at The Rogue Space on November 10th. The group exhibition, curated by Sophie Plimpton, will run from Nov 10th - Nov 16th (Open Daily 11AM-6PM). I'm showing new work including plastic camera panoramic prints, alternative process photography, and a resin-based target sculpture. "..."Texture the Frame” brings together artists who call into question the use of the frame as a literal mode of presentation, as the boundary of a medium, and as narrative. Each artist plays with material, provoking thoughts on texture; it’s substance and edges. While varying in form, the pieces, in their immediacy, create a strong sense of connectivity..." Other artist include: Karen Dana, Pierre Fraiture, Frances Denny, and Jean Fauteuille. At the November 10th opening reception there will be a performance by Coco Karol (starting at 6:30pm) with musician and collaborator Marcos Zotes, filmed by video artist Azmi Mert Erdem.

2011-2012 Artist Residency at The Flux Factory
I'm excited to announce that I've been awarded a fully-funded artist residency at the Flux Factory . From December 2011 to May 2012 I'll be living and working from the Long Island City, Queens art space which includes a silk-screen studio, a gallery, co-working space, a library, and a wood-shop. I was drawn to Flux Factory because it supports cross-disciplinary experimentation and collaboration. As part of the residency I'll have the opportunity to participate in and create events including salons, workshops, exhibitions, film-screenings, lecture series, and productions.
I plan on expanding an ongoing photographic series which combines elements of the staged with elements of the improvised. I've been working with subjects (mainly performance artists and friends) to develop characters situated in loose narratives, often inspired by a a prop, a setting, or text. When I shoot, I direct using often non-traditional, improvisational techniques. If anyone you know might be interested in participating in the project kindly have them .

Work featured in Transferred: Alternative Processes in Photography
at The Torpedo Gallery in Alexandria, VA.
Torpedo Factory Art Center’s national and international exhibition space, Target Gallery, is pleased to present "Transferred: alternative processes in photography" from November 5- 27, 2011, as part of Fotoweek DC’s celebration of photography in DC. The juror selected 22 artists out of 101 artists who applied to be a part of this media specific exhibition. The participating artists are from across the country with twolocal artists, and two Baltimore, MD artists. The work in the exhibition showcases a wide variety of alternative photography processes a few of which include palladium, collodion, bromoil, cyanotype and Van Dyke prints. Juror, Regina Deluise, writes in her statement about her selections “I'm very excited about this exhibition, as it illuminates distinct approaches to a classic medium. I gravitated towards experimental images, playful images and images that madeintriguing references to photographic history. All the work appealed to mysense of curiosity and contains a true expression of visual poetry; it reveals a command of the materials, so that in fact, we don't dwell on the material, but move directly to the artist’s own vision.” About the Juror: Regina Deluise is a photography professor with Maryland Institute College of Art. Deluise is considered an expert in the field of alternativeprocesses in photography. She is represented by Bonni Benrubi Gallery in NYC, a Guggenheim Fellow and has shown extensively worldwide. 6.11 Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Thanks to a generous scholarship from Nikon, I had the fabulous oppurtunity to go to the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in New Mexico and take artist-photographer Christopher James' Alternative Photographic Processes Workshop.
Carbon print made from a digital negative
Christopher’s workshop provided an open exchange of working concepts, ideas, history, and techniques. Using his book The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes as the workshop text, we learned a wide range of processes, including: wet plate collodion, platinum, palladium, salted paper, matte albumen, Van Dyke, kallitype, argyrotype, cyanotype, gum bichromate and gum combination techniques, Ziatype, carbon.
For samples of work I prints I made at the Santa Fe Workshops check out my Alterntaive Process portfolio.
